THE CARD GAME · THREE DEALS

Low score. High chemistry.

Six cards each. The lowest total wins. Play your match at your own pace, try a solo game with Bot, or pass one phone between you.

Two finished grids of six face-up cards side by side, yours totalling 11 and Bot's totalling 33, with a short winner's bar under your lower total.
01

Lowest total wins

You and Bot each get six cards. When every card is turned over, the lower total wins.

A grid of six cards in three columns of two, with the top-left 8 of hearts and the bottom-right 4 of spades face up and the other four showing green backs.
02

Your six cards

They sit in three columns of two. The top-left and bottom-right cards start face up; the other four are face down, and you cannot see them either.

A patch of green table with the draw pile of face-down green cards labelled DRAW and the 4 of diamonds face up on the pile labelled DISCARD.
03

What a turn is

Tap the face-up card on the discard pile, or the top of the draw pile. It goes into your six, and the card it replaces goes face up on the discard — which is how you find out what a face-down card was. A card you drew you can throw away instead, and then you turn one of your face-down cards face up.

An Ace, a 7 and a Jack standing on a baseline marked 0, each raised by its value and labelled 1, 7 and 10, so the Jack stands highest.
04

What a card costs

A King counts 0 and a 2 counts −2. An Ace is 1, a Jack or a Queen is 10, and every other card is its own number. Suits make no difference.

The 2 of spades above the 2 of diamonds, joined by a line struck through both, beside a round disc reading 0.
05

A matched column

Two cards of the same rank, one above the other, count 0 together — whatever they are. Even two 2s count 0, not −4.

The 4 of diamonds held beside a six-card grid where the 9, the 3 and the two face-down cards are ringed as legal landing places, with the ringed 3 joined to the 4 of hearts below it, while the 4 of hearts and the 2 of hearts are left unringed.
06

Taking the discard

A card from the discard pile has to improve where it lands: a face-down card, a face-up card worth more, or a column it completes. A card you drew can go anywhere.

A small scorecard listing Deal 1 as 11, Deal 2 as 7 and Deal 3 as 14, ruled off with a run total of 32.
07

How a deal ends

A deal ends when all six of someone's cards are face up. The other player gets one more turn, then everything is turned over and counted. A run is three deals, and your three totals add up.
